Life Skills

Our Corporate Education Center, in collaboration with Uconn, Trinity and Howard University have put together a Life Skills Training Program, specifically designed for students in The Alliance Program. Taught by highly qualified business professionals, in our state-of-the-art training center, you will soon be on your way to learning and practicing such things as "first-things-first," and being "proactive," principles of The 7-Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen Covey. Time Management where you'll master tips and techniques on managing your study time and schedules more effectively; and, Financial Management – how to become financially responsible and more savvy at money management. Skills and tools you will be able to use in school, business and life! Structured in four phases, here's what is offered:

Life Skills Phase I - 7-Habits of Highly Effective People (Student Series)
The program will focus on the skills needed for self-advocacy and win-win relationships/attitudes. Goal setting, personal responsibility, decision-making, and listening will be discussed.

Life Skills II - Time and Financial Management
Goal setting will be revisited, and priority making will be the focus. Conscious financial decision-making as well as an investment overview will be covered.

Life Skills III - Stress Management & Presentations
Skills will be introduced which can be used to reduce and/or eliminate stress. Best practices in interviewing will be presented.

Life Skills IV - Effective Negotiations
Negotiation skills from the Harvard Negotiations project will be taught. Developing and presenting professional presentations will be addressed.

Students are even equipped with a book entitled: Surviving Your First Year of College, written by a former FBI agent who wants to help students avoid the common pitfalls that lead to college failure. You also have the option to learn more about what a great company The Hartford is by participating in "brown-bag" lunches. Learn about it's people-what motivates them-their success stories, the company's history--what makes it such a successful financial services company and the many career opportunities available.

There is always something interesting going on for interested students!
